To Fall or Not to Fall

Tuesday, January 21, 2025 - 3:00-4:30 pm

Speaker: Joan Bray, PT, DPT, Osteo Health and Balance

How often do you stumble when walking, going up steps or trip over a rug? One key to physical health and the ability to age safely in our home is avoiding falls. Come learn about how and why we fall, bio-density strengthening, and several prevention tips on fall avoidance and hazard identification. This is a must-attend session for learning about trips and falls both forward and backward. From this presentation you will:

  •        Learn how and why we fall
  •        Assess your surroundings quickly
  •        Know the keys to fall prevention
  •        Know how to assess your environment for fall prevention.
  •       Understand bio-density strengthening

This is a situation that can happen quickly and change the course of your ability to age safely in your home. Join us to learn how to prevent or minimize falls in your future!

This program represents one event within the 2024-25 St. James NEST Speaker Series themed Stay Safe. Stay Strong. Stay Smart! Nearly 90% of adults over age 50 — across all age, race, income, and health status categories—want to remain at home and “age in place.”  This speaker series addresses some of the issues that might affect your ability to do so.  If you aren’t yet familiar with St. James NEST, its purpose is to provide services and support to St. James' residents to enhance their ability to make aging in place a reality. The 2024-25 Speaker Series is offering programs in September, November, January, March and May. Please check the St. James NEST Events Calendar for details on the other programs.
