Let’s Talk Scams

Tuesday, November 19, 2024 - 3:00-4:30 pm

Speaker: Carrie Pasquarello, Global Secure Resources Inc.

Cyber security is an important aspect of staying safe in both our private and professional lives. One wrong click on your computer or phone can lead to chaos! Learn how to spot internet crime and scams aimed specifically at obtaining your information. This discussion will focus on improving technology awareness, facilitating prevention conversations, and providing strategies to proactively (before you click) identify and protect yourselves from scams and internet trickery!

From this presentation you will:

  •       Learn the four signs it’s a scam
  •       Learn the top scam techniques you should know
  •       Identify the technologies that scammers use
  •       Understand what you can do to avoid scammers

This is a highly recommended session for any senior feeling confused or overwhelmed with the increased use and reliance on technology. This program will provide strategies to use for protecting yourself within the ever-changingworld of technology.

This program represents one event within the 2024-25 St. James NEST Speaker Series themed Stay Safe. Stay Strong. Stay Smart! Nearly 90% of adults over age 50 — across all age, race, income, and health status categories—want to remain at home and “age in place.”  This speaker series addresses some of the issues that might affect your ability to do so.  If you aren’t yet familiar with St. James NEST, its purpose is to provide services and support to St. James' residents to enhance their ability to make aging in place a reality. The 2024-25 Speaker Series is offering programs in September, November, January, March and May. Please check the St. James NEST Events Calendar for details on the other programs.
