St. James NEST Speaker Series "Aging in Place: What's Your Plan"

What's Next: Navigating the Challenges of Dignified Aging

Speaker: Valerie Moreau, LPN, Senior Care Consulting

Senior care expert, Valerie Moreau, LPN, will discuss examples of urgent issues that seniors need to contemplate if you plan to age in place and the importance of preparedness now. She’ll cover topics needed for your aging in place plan to be a success, which include: home care (private, out of pocket) versus home health care (Medicare covered); plusses and minuses of Long Term Care coverage; skilled nursing facilities versus assisted living (continuum of care facilities). She will also briefly cover all of the necessary documents you should have on file (DNRs, Living Wills, Health Care POA and medical directives).

This program represents one event within the 2022-23 St. James NEST Speaker Series themed Aging in Place: What’s Your Plan?  Nearly 90% of adults over age 50 — across all age, race, income, and health status categories—want to remain at home and “age in place.”  But staying in your home is a wish, not a plan. The upcoming speaker series will address how to make that wish more likely to become reality.  If you aren’t yet familiar with St. James NEST, its purpose is to provide services and support to St. James' residents to enhance their ability to make aging in place a reality. The 2022-23 Speaker Series will have programs in September, November, January, March and May. Please check the St. James Events Calendar for details on the other programs.
