St. James NEST has been officially up and running since January 1st, 2021!

We have grown to over 190 NEST Members who are receiving services from ~140 active Volunteers. We have two types of volunteers: those who directly support Members, and "Village Leaders", those who keep St. James NEST operating day to day. 

As we continue to grow our Membership, we will also increase the number of Volunteers.  Here are the services Volunteers perform when supporting Members:

  • Going My Way ITransport Members to appointments within our service area

  • Going My Way IIRun errands, food/drug store shopping; pickup or mail items

  • Helping HandsBasic home assistance: troubleshoot home maintenance issues; change light bulbs/batteries; change filters; move small items; hang pictures; help with holiday/seasonal décor

  • Just Checking In IIn home visits with Members: Take walks; read; provide brief caregiver respite

  • Just Checking In II Wellness phone calls to a Member on a daily or weekly basis M-F

  • Tech ConnectBasic assistance in the installation, use, configuration, and diagnosis of issues with most home technology devices or software

In addition to needing Volunteers to perform direct services for Members, we also have a need for "Village Leaders" - volunteers who help keep St. James NEST running smoothly. We have needs in the following areas:

  • Member Area Liaisons - Volunteers who would be interested in helping the Member Team as a Member Area Liaison. They will welcome new Members in their neighborhood, assess needs that St. James NEST will be able to help with, periodically keep in touch with Members, and help with putting a personalized service plan together.

  • Marketing, Communications & PR - Volunteers with experience in various areas such as HTML/website development; writing articles for various publications; writing and deploying emails through our Email service provider, Mail Chimp; promoting events through St. James e-newsletters and social media; writing articles relating to NEST; and, taking photographs for special events.

  • Information Technology - Volunteers to bolster our IT team. The two primary areas of IT focus are serving as an interface between NEST and our software provider, Helpful Village, and helping maintain our Google Suite of tools to support the Village Leader team. 

  • Legal and Compliance - Volunteers to support and advise about our business practices, policies and procedures, and efforts to manage risk.
